Jazz Ensemble
Jazz Ensemble is composed of a select group of advanced students that perform a wide variety of jazz literature. Jazz style and improvisation is explored, developed and refined. The Jazz Ensemble performs at regional festivals and competitions in the winter and spring. In addition to performing timeless standards, the jazz ensemble is always experimenting with newly composed jazz material from internationally known artists.
Concert Band
Concert Band is our most advanced symphonic ensemble consisting primarily of 8th graders with a handful of advanced 7th graders sprinkled strategically throughout the band. Admission to this band is greatly influenced by the student's past record of personal discipline, dedication, and sense of commitment as well as their ability to function as a member of a team. Elements of music are approached through exercises of increasing difficulty which present challenging, interesting, and enriching activities. The Concert Band performs only the highest quality band literature and performs at festivals across the state throughout the winter and spring. Concert Band positions are auditioned in the spring of each year. Private study on the student’s principle band instrument is highly encouraged.
Varsity Band
Varsity Band is our intermediate level band consisting mostly of 7th graders. Students in this ensemble build upon the skills they have learned in 6th Grade Band and are introduced to more advanced skills, concepts, and literature. This group performs at all of our schools concerts as well as the annual Reynolds School District Varsity Band Festival. Private study on the student’s principle band instrument is highly encouraged.
6th Grade Advanced Band
6th Grade Band is designed for 6th grade students who began studying their instrument in 5th grade. We reinforce the basic skills learned in Beginning Band and begin our journey into more advanced individual and ensemble skills. We expand our basic instrumentation to include oboes, bassoons, saxophones, horns, and tubas. This group performs at all of our schools concerts as well as the annual Reynolds School District 6th Grade Bandorama. Private study on the student’s principle band instrument is highly encouraged.
6th Grade Beginning Band
6th Grade Beginning Band is intended for 6th graders who did not begin playing their instrument in 5th grade. This is the very first stage in our students' musical development and we focus on the basic fundamentals of good musicianship. Once the students develop strong (and independent) enough musical skills they will be moved up to the Advanced 6th Grade Band to continue their study in a full ensemble setting.
